Jon Lemelin

Jon Lemelin works as a Paralegal in The Legal Project’s Immigration Practice. He is a Department of Justice (DOJ) Accredited Representative, which enables him to practice immigration law under the direct supervision of a practicing attorney. In this capacity, Jon is assisting his clients with a variety of immigration matters, including applications for Naturalization, Green Cards and Employment Authorization. He has also participated in a variety of immigration training & outreach programs. During the summer of 2018, he was responsible for the information technology aspects of the “Detention Outreach Project” with Albany Law School and the New York Immigration Coalition, which assisted over 350 asylum-seekers brought to the Albany County Jail from the southern border. The team achieved a Credible Fear Interview (CFI) passage rate of over 95%, which was well over the national average at the time, resulting in the release from detention of most of the individuals assisted. Prior to joining The Legal Project, he was a volunteer at the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in Albany and a Partner at Deloitte Consulting. He completed a BS in engineering at the University of Connecticut (1984) and an MBA from UCLA (1989). Jon enjoys running, baking, milling flour, roasting coffee beans and caring for his grist of mason bees.
