WHO WE ARE
Born out of the legal efforts at JFK Airport during the Muslim Ban, Immigrant ARC has been growing exponentially since spinning out as a stand alone non-profit three years ago. During that time, we have helped coordinate responses to multiple immigration needs and helped strengthen and grow the immigration legal services field in order to increase immigrant New Yorker’s access to counsel and access to justice.
Our community includes over 80 legal service providers in New York State. We come together in solidarity with all New Yorkers who believe in fair and just immigration policies and who share our collective outrage at the injustices confronting immigrant communities. We use our knowledge of immigration law and practice to empower each other and the communities we serve to collectively fight systemic oppression and seek respect and dignity for all. We recognize that access to justice for immigrant communities is inextricably linked to the broader fight for racial justice. We commit to working alongside all others who are fighting to achieve a vision of a more just and equitable world.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building. Reporting to the Director of Programs (“DOP”), the Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building works closely with the DOP and engages with all members of the staff. This position also manages three direct reports, the Membership and Capacity Building Associate, the Program & Training Associate, and the Upstate and Rural Communities Fellow.
The Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of I-ARC’s programs and services. Particular emphasis is on interacting with our 80+ legal organization members. Critical duties include working with member organizations to foster and strengthen collaboration and to create systems to improve access to counsel for immigrant New Yorkers. The Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building may be called upon to provide defined support to other team members.
Specifically, the Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building will:
● Collaboration and acting on opportunities. Work closely with the advocacy and communications staff to ensure I-ARC coalition work leads to system change. Work with the Advocacy team to elevate I-ARC member recommendations into actionable asks for change. Represent I-ARC in advocacy coalitions, including the CARE For Immigrant Families Steering Committee and coalition, to ensure the perspectives of our members and legal service providers are included.
● Skill-building. Unlock the capacity of our 80+ legal organization members to move forward collaborative work.
● Connection and facilitation. Create space for members to connect both with each other and the broader community. Organize and lead meetings with I-ARC members and other key stakeholders, including prepping agendas; taking notes; monitoring and following up on action items; and strong facilitation to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
● Facilitate state-wide legal service coordination. Work with I-ARC members across the State to map out and catalog available resources for immigrants in each region, responding to shortages with coordination and resource support for local providers. Facilitate referrals between members and outside partners to ensure immigrants are connected to necessary services.
● Create collaborative materials. Work with I-ARC members to identify existing community outreach and provider support materials and work with members and I-ARC staff and partners to create materials not otherwise available to educate immigrant communities, as well as legal service providers and their partners.
● Systems organization. Maintain portions of the website dedicated to resource and information sharing. Manage member-only resources database including keeping materials up to date and identifying and uploading new resources from members as appropriate. Work with partners and software developers to create systems to automate some of the referral functions above and monitor such systems to ensure referrals lead to immigrants receiving necessary services.
● Oversee I-ARC’s issue-specific working groups and help make sure they are effective and productive. These groups include:
○ Rapid Response
○ Training Committee
○ Conference Planning Committee (seasonal)
○ Steering Committee (support)
● Training. Work with the Training Working Group and Training Associate to provide logistical support in organizing training for I-ARC membership, including identifying training topics; managing RSVPs; and obtaining, organizing, and maintaining necessary documents for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accreditation. Includes identifying and maintaining relationships with potential training partners not on the Training Committee, such as the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) and NYIC.
● Liaison support. Support DOP with liaison efforts between I-ARC members and local offices of federal and state agencies to resolve case-specific issues. Organize direct engagements with federal and state immigration agencies for issue-specific needs and member communication, including: EOIR, ICE, USCIS, Newark and NYC Asylum Offices, and CBP
● Planning. Work alongside the DOP and Training Associate to plan the annual conference—organizing a member-based planning committee, soliciting member session proposals, and developing a schedule of about 15 conference sessions with CLE approval as applicable.
